We were lucky enough to be part of the building of the new Biggest Loser Camp here on the Gold Coast. Previously the Golden Door Health Retreat brought their guests to health and relaxation in their serene surroundings, now they’ll be able to help more people reach their health and fitness goals by becoming the new Biggest Loser Camp! We put in high quality rubber matting tiles throughout the gym that will be there for a long time to come. They’ll certainly be able to withstand a heavy workout.
Before and after:
Rubber tiles are great for lots of uses wether it be gyms, daycares, outdoor or indoor. There are some things to keep in mind when looking for a quality rubber tile – there’s a lot of low quality ones out there.
- Smell: Seems silly, but the smell of a rubber tile is a good indicator of it’s quality. Some of the imported rubber is not made to the high standards of the Australian tiles. A chemical smell means bad chemicals and no, this will not fade away. A good test to do is take a small portion of the tile and leave it in a sealed plastic bag for a few hours. If the smell is very chemically strong when you open the bag – say no! It’s not worth the price.
- Temperature: The temperature really matters for installation. If you’re not having them installed professionally (which we do suggest – it’s harder than it looks!) there are certain times of the day that the tiles should be installed to prevent looseness and warping. Make sure the tiles have not been store in the sun or heat.
- What glue is used?: When shopping around, be sure to ask about the quality of the glue. Like the smell of the actual rubber I talked about before, there’s glues out there that are chemically harsh and odours. Stay away from them and demand a high quality glue.
A simple thing to do is to ask where the tiles are made. If they’re made outside of Australia, ask a few more questions and ask for their specification sheets. That way you’ll make sure you’re getting the right product.
We hope all the attendees at the Biggest Loser Camp put the tiles to good use!
Happy Flooring!
